Summary
A many-body theory of the correlation properties of a positron in an electron liquid is presented. It is based on the linear response formalism. Explicit nonperturbative approximate expressions and numerical results for the positron self-energy and chemical potential are given. The quasi-particle behaviour of the positron is studied in detail. Some implications of correlations in the case of positron annihilation in metals are discussed. Application of the theory to the positron trapping process treatment allows us to overcome the discrepancies between theory and experiments which have been encountered till now.
