Pierre Lévy (France) Professional interests include the cultural and cognitive implications of digital technologies and promoting their best social use. Doctorate in sociology, Paris, 1983. Initially a researcher at CREA (Ecole polytechnique, Paris) on the history of cybernetics, artificial intelligence and artificial life (1983–86); he taught in Montreal (1987–89), and at the University of Paris-Nanterre (1990–92), while pursuing research work on economics and knowledge technologies (1991–95). Joint inventor of ‘knowledge trees’. Since 1993, has taught in the ‘hypermedia’ department of the University of Paris-St Denis.
