Chiral symmetry and nonleptonic-radiative hyperon decay

Summary

Nonleptonic-radiative hyperon decay—α → βγ—is studied from the point of view of current algebra and simple chiral Lagrangians. Equivalence between the approaches is shown and attempts to fit current experimental data are discussed. Predicted values in such models are found to be in apparent disagreement with present experiments.

As long as one deals with processes on the mass shell, it is possible to make point transformations on any field, of the type ϕ = ϕ′ + … (where the dots stand for bilinear and higher terms in ϕ′) without altering the values ofS-matrix elements. 9. For completeness and consistency with chiral symmetry the K-pole contribution has been added to this and subsequent calculations. We have employed the weak chiral Lagrangian given byJ. A. Cronin:Phys. Rev.,161, 1483 (1967), in order to take account of the weak Kπ couplings. However, this contribution is quite small and has a negligible effect on our results.
