A dynamical theory of the pion using a bag model

Summary

By combining quantum effects due to the centre-of-mass motion of the quarks inside a bag, with an approximate realization of the chiral symmetry, we derive a gap equation for the pion mass. The equation givesM <r 2π > 1/20 =0.42, with <r π2 >0 the chiral limit of the mean square charge radius of the pion. Furthermore we obtainf π<r 2π > 1/20 =0.31. If the scale of the model is fixed throughf π, besidesM and <r 2π > 1/20 we calculate the bag constantB and an effective current quark mass. At first order of a chiral perturbation theory we obtainM=127 MeV.
