In the experiment ofC. Alff, D. Berley, D. Colley, N. Gelfand, U. Nauenberg D. Miller, J. Schultz, J. Steinberger T. H. Tan, H. Brugger, P. Kramer andR. Plano:Phys. Rev. Lett.,9, 322 (1962), which has a statistical accuracy comparable to some of the experiments quoted above, a width of (100±10) MeV is given for incident pion momenta between 2.34 and 2.90 GeV/c. However, this width is obtained by fitting to a Breit-Wigner shape after subtracting off a large background. If the raw data are treated in the same manner as that of the other references, the result is not inconsistent with the trend cited. The problem of backgrounds makes difficult drawing very definite conclusions on the energy dependence of the width.
