Centre-of-mass effects at finite temperature

  • Published:

Summary

Finite-temperature Hartree-Fock calculations in24Mg seem to indicate that the lowest-lying prolate, oblate and spherical solutions exhibit unexpected structure in the internal energy atT⋍(0.5÷1.0) MeV. For these solutions the ensemble average of the centre-of-mass kinetic-energy operator exhibits similar structure in the same temperature range, which leads us to believe that the centre of mass is not necessarily thermally quiescent.
