Summary
The nonperturbative Bayleigh-Ritz procedure for functionalities is applied to the quantum theory of the interaction of an electron with the electromagnetic field in certain approximations. The procedure yields effective field equations, the solutions to which enable one to evaluate quantities of physical significance. Application to Compton scattering is considered.
