On a property of the relative semi-inclusive correlation function

Summary

We show that, independently of any dynamical assumption, the relativek-body semi-inclusive correlation functionR (k)n will be equal to (−1)k−1((k−1)!/n k−1) if the corresponding inclusive-correlation effect is weak. The 1/n behaviour of NAL data of relative semi-inclusive correlation at 205 GeV/c may, therefore, be seen as an indication that the actual correlation effect of this process is not very strong.

  10. This conclusion is of course valid only for correlation between negative-negative charge particles. For positive-negative charge particles, the correlation effect seems to be strong, because of a strong deviation of data from the 1/n curve. Furthermore, positive-negative charge correlation data seem to show characteristics of a production of resonances (XVIII International Conference on High-Energy Physics at Tbilisi, USSR, 1976, private communication).
