A soluble two-dimensional field theory satisfying unitarity and crossing symmetry

Summary

A theory describing spinless, neutral bosons in a universe with one space dimension is investigated. It is assumed that the scattering amplitudes are analytic functions of the momenta of the particles with only those singularities required by unitarity and crossing symmetry. The general solution for the elastic scattering amplitude is obtained under the assumption that all inelastic amplitudes vanish. In spite of the absence of inelastic processes, the solution is entirely consistent with analyticity, unitarity and crossing symmetry. The class of solutions which approach a constant at high energy are investigated in detail; it is found that these solutions are in agreement with conventional perturbation theory with aλφ 4 interaction through terms of orderλ 3. The effects of crossing symmetry and inelastic processes are investigated. It is found that the low-energy scattering is insensitive to crossing symmetry and the presence of inelastic effects. The behavior of resonances and bound states as a function of the coupling constant does depend strongly on crossing symmetry and the inelastic term in the unitarity condition.

Si studia una teoria che descrive bosoni privi di spin, neutri in un universo ad una dimensione spaziale. Si suppone che le ampiezze di scattering siano funzioni analitiche degli impulsi delle particelle con le sole singolarità richieste dall’unitarietà e dalla simmetria incrociata. Si ottiene la soluzione generale per l’ampiezza dello scattering elastico nell’ipotesi che tutte le ampiezze anelastiche tendano a zero. Malgrado l’assenza di processi anelastici la soluzione è completamente concordante con l’analiticità, l’unitarietà e la simmetria incrociata.
