A note on the spallation of silver and bromine by high-energy protons and heavy nuclei

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento (1955-1965)

Summary

It is shown that the prong-number distribution of « stars » produced in nuclear emulsions by energetic protons may be used to give a qualitative indication of the spallation element yield curve for silver and bromine target nuclei. The prong number distribution of stars produced by energetic,E⩾1.5 GeV per nucleon, cosmic-ray nuclei withZ⩾6 is examined in a similar manner and it is shown that the spallation yield curve on the same target nuclei is significantly different from that observed for protons.
