On the quantum-mechanical consistency of an extended abelian gauge model

Summary

We reconsider anexact Abelian gauge model characterised by the presence of amassless gauge boson along with amassive vector particle and discuss the quantum-mechanical stability of an extra globalU(1) symmetry that plays a crucial rôle in the decoupling of the spurious scalar mode carried by the massive vector boson, ensuring therefore the renormalisability and unitarity of the model.
