Summary
The intrinsic nonlinear field patterns and the equations governing their motion are investigated for a system of self-interacting fermions described by a nonlinear Dirac equation. Among the stationary solutions considered are vibrational excitations akin to single-dimensional solitons, whereas the general excitations represent vibrational-rotational excitations. Nonstationary excitations in which the spin degrees of freedom are frozen are established. The peak profile of the solution is characterized by a three-dimensional soliton envelope modulated by « dissipative » effects; the resulting structure somewhat resembles a shocklike excitation.
