Variational approach to the fermi hard-sphere system

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento A (1971-1996)

Summary

The infinite-hard-sphere Fermi system is studied by using Jastrow variational wave functions. The energy per particle and the momentum distribution are evaluated analytically in correspondence to the variational best solution within the second-order cluster expansion and numerically with trial functions of suitable form. In the case of the momentum distribution, the contribution from elementary diagrams is also evaluated. The results so obtained are compared with the results of the perturbative approach.
