On electron- and muon-nucleus elastic scattering: a semi-classical approach

Summary

It is shown, by a semi-classical picture, that the effect of the difference in the charge radius of the electron and muon, if any, on the elastic e- and μ-nucleus scattering is too small to be observed experimentally at the present time. If any discrepancy is found in these scattering cross-sections, it must be attributed to the nonelectrostatic origin.

Si dimostra in un quadro semiclassico, che l’effetto della differenza nel raggio della carica dell’elettrone e del muone, se esiste, sugli scattering elastici e-nucleo e μ-nucleo è troppo piccolo per essere attualmente osservato sperimentalmente. Se si trova qualche discrepanza in queste sezioni d’urto di scattering, essa deve essere attribuita ad una origine non elettrostatica.

В рамках полуклассического подхода покаэывается, что влияние раэности радиусов эарядов злектрона и мюона, если она вообше сушествует, на упругое рассеяние злектронов и мюонов на ядрах — слищком мало, чтобы его эарегистрировать зкспериментально в настояшее время. Если наблюдается раэличие в зтих поперечных сечениях рассеяния, то оно должно быть приписано не злектростатическому происхождению.
