Summary
We use a current-current quark model to describe the parity-violating and parity-conserving nonleptonic decay modes of the octet baryons and the Ω−-particle. TheSU 3 transformation property of the nonleptonic transitions induced by the current-current quark Hamiltonian is discussed in terms of the commutation rules of the underlying quark fields. Fermi quarks do not lead to a satisfactory description of the data. Using paraquarks and a slightly modified current-current paraquark Hamiltonian we arrive at a reasonable fit to the existing data in terms of three parameters. A close analogy of our model to the usual current algebra calculation is exhibited.
