Coherent nuclear photoproduction of the η-meson

Summary

This work is essentially devoted to a critical review of some of the thoretical assumptions, which have recently allowed a Bonn-Pisa collaboration to extract the rate Г(η→2γ) from the analysis of the experimental data on η photoproduction on complex nuclei. In particular we study the two following subjects:a) the effect of γ absorption in the nucleus on the coherent nuclear cross-section angular dependence, in agreement with some recent results, both theoretical and experimental;b) the estimate of the overall magnitude of the coherent nuclear contribution. We conclude that it would be useful to re-analyse the experimental data, following the suggestions of this work. We hope that it is possible, in that manner, to explain the very bad disagreement between the measured value of Г(η→2γ) and the predictions of most theoretical models.

Questo lavoro è rivolto essenzialmente ad un esame critico di alcune delle ipotesi teoriche, che hanno di recente permesso di ricavare, dall'analisi dei dati sperimentali sulla fotoproduzione di η su nuclei complessi, il valore della probabilità di decadimento Г(η→2γ). Si studiano in particolare:a) l'effetto sulla dipendenza angolare della sezione d'urto nucleare coerente dell'assorbimento del fotone nel nucleo, in accordo con alcune recenti indicazioni sia sperimentali che teoriche;b) la possibilità di dare una stima della grandezza assoluta del contributo nucleare coerente. Si conclude che sarebbe forse utile rianalizzare i dati sperimentali, seguendo le indicazioni di questo lavoro, visto che il valore misurato di Г(η→2γ) pone dei problemi teorici di difficile soluzione.

Эта работа, в основном, посвящена критическому обзору некоторых теоретических предположений, которые недавно позволили сотрудничеству Бонн-Пиза извлечь интенсивность Г(η→2γ) из анализа экспериментальных данных по η-фоторождению на сложных ядрах. В частности, мы исследуем два следующих вопроса:a) влияние γ-поглощения в ядрах на угловую завнсимость когерентного ядерного поперечного сечения, в соответствии с некоторыми недавними теоретическим и экспериментальными резльтатами;b) оценка суммарной величины когерентного ядерного вклада. Мы заключаем, что было бы полезно заново проанализировчвь экспериментальные данные, следуя предположениям данной работы. Мы надеемся, что, таким образом, возможно общяснить очень сильное расхождение между измеренной величиной Г(η→2γ) и предсказаниями большинства теоретических моделей.
