A comment on a proposed «crucial experiment» to test Einstein's special theory of relativity

Summary

A proposed «crucial experiment» to test Einstein's special theory of relativity is analysed and it is shown that it falls into the set of unsatisfactory proposals that attempt to make an experimental distinction between Einstein's special theory of relativity and a «Lorentzian type» special theory of relativity.

There it is stated that to date no theoretical proof exists which shows the impossibility of making an experimental distinction between the two types theories. A Lorentzian-type theory is every theory which assumes a preferred or absolute frame, real-time dilations and real-length contractions as a function of velocity with respect to this frame.

  4. This statement should be justified since, if one accepts the bing-bang theory and some of its consequences concerning an isotropic distribution of microwave radiation, then one may be able to use every anisotropy in this radiation to measure its absolute velocity (i.e., the velocity with respect to a frame fixed at the big-bang event).
