Summary
The study of inclusive rapidity spectra pp → pX and pp → pπX at high energies provides a test of the assumptions of the diffractive excitation model. The magnitude and shape of correlations between the leading proton and produced pions favours a modified model, in which the diffractive cluster decays longitudinally, rather than isotropically.
