Electron-positron annihilation into hadrons at ultra high energies

Summary

It is demonstrated that the ratio

$$R = \mathop {lim}\limits_{s \to \infty } \frac{{\sigma (e^ + e^ - \to hadrons)}}{{\sigma (e^ + e^ - \to \mu ^ + \mu ^ - )}} $$

will rise as (logs)3 at asymptotic high energy where two-jet structure of final-state hadrons will be dominant. Our conclusion is based on the hypothesis that the spectral function of the photon propagator approaches a constant limit ass → ∞, which is true in a free-field theory. A numerical estimate of this process is made in the intermediate-energy region using vector-meson dominance and compared with the usual two-photon process e+e → e+eh (h=hadron).

Si è dimostrato che il rapporto\(R = \mathop {lim}\limits_{s \to \infty } (\sigma (e^ + e^ - \to adroni)/\sigma (e^ + e^ - \to \mu ^ + \mu ^ - ))\) → adroni)/σ(e+e → μ+μ)) aumenta come (logs)3 per energie asintoticamente alte in cui divengono dominanti le strutture a due getti degli adroni dello stato finale. La nostra conclusione si fonda sull’ipotesi che la funzione spettrale del propagatore di fotoni si avvicini a un limite costante pers → ∞, il che è vero in una teoria di campi liberi. Si fa una stima numerica di questo processo nella regione delle energie intermedie usando la dominanza del mesone vettoriale e la si confronta con il processo usuale a due fotoni e+e → e+eh (h=adrone).

Покаэывается, что отнощение\(R = \mathop {lim}\limits_{s \to \infty } (\sigma (e^ + e^ - \to adroni)/\sigma (e^ + e^ - \to \mu ^ + \mu ^ - ))\) будет воэрастать, как (logs)3 при асимптотически высоких знергиях, когда для адронов в конечном состоянии структура двух струй является доминируюшей. Наще утверждение баэируется на гипотеэе, что спектральная функция фотонного пропа-гатора стремится к постоянному пределу, когдаs→∞, который является истинным в асимптотически свободной теории.
