Summary
It is shown that the group hypothesis is not compatible with the existence of transformations containing more than one singularity. The relevance of the first parameter group is stressed.

Certain nonaffine transformations (the Möbius transformations) can be taken into account if one does not impose the invariance of (9) but only the invariance of the equation dr 2-c 2i dt 2=0. But these transformations are indesirable, in our context, since they transform events of finite co-ordinates into other events with infinite co-ordinates. SeeV.
