Multiphoton transition probability at ultra-high intensities

Summary

The behaviour of the transition probability for atomic processes such as multiphoton ionization caused by an ultra-high external electromagnetic field is examined by summing the entire perturbation series under some model assumptions. It is seen that the transition probability decreases with increasing intensity, since it is inversely proportional to the photon flux. This behaviour is of experimental interest with increasingly powerful lasers available.
