Near field diffracted by a reflection grating with cylindrical grooves

Summary

The diffraction by a reflection grating formed by cylindrical grooves engraved in a metallic mirror is studied in the case of an impinging plane wave, either real or evanescent. The problem is reduced to the solution of a system of linear equations. The degree of the approximation of the results is diseussed by means of a numerical example. The conclusion is that the method adopted may be used to evaluate both the fields on the metallic surface of the grating and the diffracted near field.

Riassunto

Si studia la diffrazione di un’onda piana, reale od evanescente, da parte di un reticolo metallico di riflessione a solchi cilindrici. Il problema è ricondotto alla soluzione di un sistema di equazioni lineari. Il grado di approssimazione dei risultati è discusso facendo un esempio numerico. Si può concludere che il metodo adottato può essere usato per valutare sia i campi sulla superficie metallica del reticolo, sia il campo vicino diffratto.
