Nonrelativistic classical and quantum scattering by a dipole and by a neutral system of two fixed charges

Summary

We investigate the interaction and scattering of a nonrelativistic charged particle by the potentials due to a dipole and two fixed charges of equal magnitude and opposite signs, both in classical and quantum mechanics. The classical and quantum differential cross-sections are studied theoretically. In the dipole case, «falls to the origin» are shown to be absent in certain conditions. The quantum bound states in the two-charge case are studied through the WJKB method.
