Bremsstrahlung, radiative corrections and pion production in muon-proton scattering

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento (1955-1965)

Summary

Radiative corrections to muon-proton scattering are calculated to orderα 3. Hard bremsphotons emitted by the muon are included. The radiation of the proton, however, is neglected. The phase-space integrations performed are suited for an experiment in which the recoil proton alone is observed. The cross-sections for π production in muon- (or electron-) proton scattering are estimated using the covariant Weizsäcker-Williams method. Numerical results based on experimental values for the pion photoproduction cross-section and for the form factors of the proton, are given in diagram form.
