Surface electromagnetic-wave enhancement of nonlinear optical phenomena in metals

Il Nuovo Cimento B (1971-1996)

Summary

We present a general formulation of the enhancement of nonlinear phenomena, such as second-harmonic generation and parametric mixing, which results when surface electromagnetic waves are used as the incident and/or outgoing radiation in attenuated-total-reflection prism configurations. This formulation is also applicable to Raman scattering by optical and acoustical phonons in metals.
