  1. In special cases such as p+p→p+Δ(1236), for which, by isospin consideration, theI t=0 cannot contribute, π exchange will dominate. Experiments (2) show that the cross-section effectively decreases quickly with energy like 1/s 2. Also π exchange is dominant in p+p→n+anything, π+p→n+anthing (in the target fragmentation region).

  6. The necessity of PPf and ffP terms is well known. Without these terms, thes-dependence of inclusive cross-sections cannot be accounted for. The other terms PPP, fff perhaps are also needed in a more detailed fit for boths andx distributions. See for exampleF. Sannes, T. De Lillo, M. Lieberman, J. Mueller, B. Robinson, I. Siotis, G. Cvijanovich, A. Pagnamenta andR. Stanek:Phys. Rev. Lett.,30, 766 (1973).

  7. Fort large, the ffP term is no longer flat, but also grows with increasingM 2. Hence this term can give rise to a dip in the missing-mass spectra. The clear-cut difference between the π exchange term and the other terms appears whent is small, say |t|≲0.1 (GeV)2.
