The scattering of μ-mesons in lead and copper

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento (1955-1965)

Summary

The scattering distributions of μ-mesons in lead and copper have been investigated using a cloud chamber operated underground at a depth of 40 m w.e. At high momenta the observed scattering distributions are similar to those given byMolière for a « point » nucleus at large angles. It is shown that the results are consistent with a cross-section that varies asA 2 orZ 2 but not asZ orA.
