Variable gravitational coupling, mass creation and celestial mechanics

Summary

The Einstein-Hilbert action is extended to include the time-dependent gravitational couplingGt −1. The resulting field equation requires a matter creation process inside the source; the creation rate in a homogeneous ball of perfect fluid is evaluated and the massM of the ball is found proportional tot. It is suggested that such a process could explain the well-known discrepancy betweenGt −1 and the Viking-lander-range data on the orbit of Planet Mars.
