Electromagnetic duality in quantum circuits

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento B (1971-1996)

Summary

To illustrate the duality between electric and magnetic views of quantum circuits, we compare and contrast the origins of the Josephson frequency and the current bias frequency in each case.

  8. For convenience we choose here to omit the energy of the external field between the capacitor plates, 1/2CV x 2, compared to the Hamiltonians in —ref. [7]. This makes the connection to the Josephson limit more apparent. Considering the rotating pendulum analogue, this means we have chosen to define our energy in a different rotating frame. Quantities of physical interest are unaffected by this choice.
