The effect of pressure on the optical-absorption edge in SnS2 and SnSe2

Summary

We have measured the pressure effect on the optical-absorption edge in SnS2 and SnSe2 at 77 K and 273 K. We find the lowest band gap to be indirect (E g) and a direct band gap (E 0) at higher energy. The results can be interpreted to give values for the pressure coefficients forE g andE 0. We find the direct transition to be closer in energy to the indirect one than has previously been found.

Si è misurato l’effetto della pressione sullo spigolo di assorbimento ottico nel SnS2 e SnS2 a 77 K e 273 K. Si trova che la gap a più bassa energia (E g) è di tipo indiretto mentre quella diretta (E 0) è posta ad energia più alta. I risultati possono essere interpretati per dare i valori dei coefficienti di pressione perE g edE 0.
