Optical properties of BiI3 single crystals

Summary

Reflection, absorption and photoluminescence spectra have been measured on high-quality single crystals of BiI3. Two prominent peaks in the reflection and absorption spectra are associated with direct allowed exciton transitions. At low temperatures, the absorption edge shows indirect excitonic nature. Some of the sharp absorption and emission lines are explained as due to stacking-disorder-induced exciton transitions.

Sono stati misurati gli spettri di fotoluminescenza di assorbimento e di riflessione in cristalli singoli di alta qualità di BiI3. Due picchi prominenti negli spettri di assorbimento e di riflessione sono associati alle transizioni dirette permesse fra stati eccitonici. A basse temperature lo spigolo di assorbimento mostra una natura eccitonica indiretta. Alcune delle linee di assorbimento e di emissione sono spiegate come dovute a transizioni eccitoniche indotte dal disordine di impilamento.

Измеряются спектры отражения, поглощения и фотолюминесценции на высококачественных монокристаллах BiI3. Два пика в спектрах отражения и поглощения связаны с прямыми разрешенными экситонными переходами. При низких температурах край полосы поглощения обнаруживает непрямой экситонный характер. Некоторые резкие линии поглощения и испускания обусловлены группировкой дефектов, которая индуцирована экситонными переходами.
