Investigation of the electroproduction of the nucleon resonances on polarized protons

Summary

The inelastic scattering of electrons on polarized protons is considered in the one-photon approximation. An expression for the cross-section is derived by taking into account the polarization of the scattered electron and the quadrupole (E2) and magnetic-dipole (M1) form factors of the transition in the γpN* vertex. It is shown that the contribution to the cross-section from particle polarization is sensible, but nearly constant when the scattering angle runs in the range 18° ⩽ϑ ⩽ 35°. In addition, it is pointed out that the supplementary contribution to the cross-section for inelastic scattering on polarized target is about 30% of inelastic scattering cross-section on an unpolarized target. It is shown that the angular behaviour of the correlation degree of this phenomenon is completely different from that of the elastic process.

Riassunto

Si studia la diffusione anelastica di elettroni su protoni polarizzati nell’approssimazione di scambio di un singolo fotone virtuale. Si prende in considerazione la polarizzazione dell’elettrone diffuso e i fattori di forma di quadripolo e di dipolo magnetico di transizione nel vertice γpN*. Si mostra che il contributo alla sezione d’urto della polarizzazione della particella è sensibile, ma pressoché costante al variare dell’angolo di diffusione nell’intervallo 18° ⩽ϑ ⩽ 35°. Inoltre si fa notare che il contributo supplementare alla sezione di urto per la diffusione anelastica su bersaglio polarizzato è circa il 30% della sezione d’urto della diffusione anelastica su bersaglio non polarizzato. Si mostra che l’andamento angolare del grado di correlazione in questo fenomeno è completamente differente dall’andamento nel processo elastico.

В однофотонном приближении получено выражение для дифференциального сечения процесса обраэования нуклонного реэонанса злектронами на поляриэованной протонной мищени с учетом формфакторов злектрического квадрупольного и магнитного дипольного переходов для верщины γpN* и поляриэации рассеянных злектронов. В предположении, что доминируюшим является магнитный дипольный переход, иэучена угловая эависимость сечения рождения нуклонного реэонанса со спином 3/2 и степень продольной поляриэации рассеянных злектронов. Покаэано, что выклад в сечение от поляриэации протонной мищени эначителен при малых углах и составляет около 30%.
