A calculation on physical partons

Summary

The Landshoff-Polkinghorne model for deep inelastic lepton scattering is considered in a context in which partons (quarks) are treated as physical particles. This approach is complemented by the hypothesis that the asymptotic behaviour of the scaling functionF 2(ω) for electroproduction is due to a diffractive mechanism for which a model is constructed. As a result, a value for the quark mass is found.
