Summary
The interaction of a collimated light beam with an ultrasonic stationary field of circular cross-section is considered as a function of the incidence angle in the frame of the Raman-Nath theory. The temporal modulation wave forms of the Fraunhofer diffraction fringes are calculated. The discrepancies with the experimental results, already evidenced in the case of a field of rectangular cross-section, are confirmed. Such discrepancies are probably due to the neglecting of the actual bending of the light ray trajectories within the ultrasonic field.
