Breakeven for thermonuclear fusion in the hot-ion mode

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento B (1971-1996)

Summary

The condition for fusion breakeven is derived for the hot-ion mode in which the ion temperature considerably exceeds the electron temperature. It is found that the conditions for breakeven in this mode are greatly eased compared to the case of equal ion and electron temperatures. The critical value of the electron temperature is strongly reduced indicating the possibility of reaching breakeven with relatively weak additional heating.
