Rotational absorption of gases at high pressures

Summary

A theory is developed forrotational absorption of gases at high pressure. Absorption is shown to be the sum of a Debye-type zero-frequency line, due to molecules whose rotational freedom is destroyed by a strong intermolecular interaction, plus a resonating component. A study of the line mixing is given for the latter. The agreement with experiement is satisfactory.

This is true at reasonable values of pressure forl,l +,l .l and\(\bar l\) will be in general well separated and therefore their interference even more depressed by energy conservation, according to the discussion of Subsect.3 ·2.
