Summary

In this paper we discuss the possibility to use a laser beam as a diagnostic tool in electron cooling experiment. The scattering of light from an electron beam can be used to measure the beam density and the electron longitudinal temperature. The use of commercial high-power lasers allows us to reach resolution of the order of (10−4÷10−6) eV, for electron temperature measurements.

In questo articolo si discute la possibilità di usare un fascio laser quale strumento di diagnostica in un esperimento di raffreddamento degli elettroni. La misura della diffusione di luce laser da un fascio di elettroni fornisce informazioni sulla densità del fascio e sulla temperatura longitudinale degli elettroni. L’utilizzo di lasers commerciali di alta potenza permette di misurare la temperatura longitudinale degli elettroni con risoluzioni dell’ordine di (10−4÷10−6) eV.

В статье обсуждается возможность использования лазерного пучка для диагностики в эксперименте по охлаждению электронов. Рассеяние света на электронном пучке может быть использовано для измерения плотности пучка и продольной электронной температуры. Использование коммерческих лазеров высокой мощности позволяет получить разрешение порядка (10−4÷10−6) эВ при измерениях электронной температуры.
