Squamous cell carcinoma arising in mature cystic teratoma of the ovary

Resumen

El teratoma quístico maduro de ovario es un tumor compuesto en su totalidad por tejidos maduros originados a partir de las 3 capas embrionarias. Es el tumor ovárico más frecuente y es benigno a menos que surja una transformación maligna en cualquiera de sus elementos.

El carcinoma epidermoide desarrollado en un teratoma quístico maduro es una rara neoplasia que representa, aproximadamente, el 2% de los tumores primarios del ovario. Su pronóstico es generalmente malo y guarda relación con una serie de factores como estadio, ruptura capsular, grado de diferenciación, modo de infiltración tumoral, invasión capsular y vascular. Debido a su rareza, no existe consenso sobre la eficacia del tratamiento postquirúrgico.
