She has specialized in research into new religions and is the founder of Inform, a charity that provides information about the movements. Her current research is on religion in Eastern Europe and on contemporary Armenians. She is president of the Society for the Scientific Study of Religions. Her publications include The Making of a Moonie(1984) and New Religious Movements(1989).
