Threshold behaviour of 3-body partial-wave amplitudes

Summary

The threshold behaviour of 3-body scattering amplitudes is investigated in potential theory. For a bound state plus free-particle system we use conventionalJ, M, l, S type of angular decomposition. For 3-free particle we useJ, M andM′, the latter being the component ofJ along a body-fixed axis. We then show that theT-matrices for bound-state elastic and rearrangement collisions behave like (p i )lf(p f )lf, werep i ,p f refer to initial and final momenta. The break-up collisionT-matrices behave like (p i )lf-constant. The nonrescattering part of the 3-free →3-free amplitude behaves like a constant while the rescattering part behaves like I/p 2. We emphasize that all these terms are independent ofJ.
