A simplified method of simulating electromagnetic showers

Summary

A Monte Carlo programme for studying electromagnetic showers is described. The main difference with previous programmes is its simplicity which is obtained by using in certain parts experimental data. The distribution of track length in a small-dimension absorber of lead glass is calculated for electrons of energy between 50 and 500 MeV. The output of a Čerenkov counter is then studied theoretically and the results are compared with experiments.
