Abstract

In this paper, the current status of the technology of modal testing is reviewed with particular reference to the application of these methods to the task of ensuring the optimum design of mechanical structures. Existing methods are summarised and new techniques which are currently under development are described. Some of the current limitations and problem areas are also identified.
