Before his untimely death in August 1995

He is the author of Power and Illness: The Failure and Future of American Health Policyand Engines of Culture: Philanthropy and Art Museums,published by Transaction.

wrote the essay “Erosion of Mass Culture” for the July/August, 1993, issue of SOCIETY.

was a general practitioner for six years. He then worked in mental hospitals and other branches of psychiatry, trained as a Freudian psychoanalyst in London, and now practices independently as a psychotherapist in Cambridge. He is also the author of The Limits of Interpretationand The Psychotherapy of Everyday Life,both published by Transaction Books.
