Among his works are Symbolic Crusade: Status Politics and the American Temperance Movement; The Culture of Public Problems: Drinking-Driving and the Symbolic Order;and Community: A Critical Response.His most recent book is New Social Movements: From Ideology to Identity,edited with Enrique Larana and Hank Johnston, and his Contested Meanings: The Construction of Alcohol Problemswill appear in early 1996.
