David A. Goslin is executive director of the Commission on Behavioral and Social Sciences and Education of the National Academy of Sciences. He was a staff officer of the Russell Sage Foundation; and is the author of two books on the social consequences of standardized testing, a textbook on the sociology of education, and editor of the Handbook of Socialization Theory and Research.
