He is currently on leave from the University of Texas at Dallas where he is associate professor of political economy and director of the Southwest Center for Economic and Community Development.
He has written widely in professional journals on industrial location, regional economic development, and the effects of government policy and technological change on regional economic changes, and been a consultant to the Joint Economic Committee of the U.S. Congress and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
