Abstract

The present study of stress, depression and coping among a sample of 108 middle-class African American men sought ot understand if stress between a man and his partner is associated with depression, if escape-avoidance coping is more likely to be used by men who experience relational stress, and if escape-avoidance coping is associated with depression. The study did not confirm an association between relational conflict and depression. Relational stressors were more associated with an escape-avoidance coping strategy.
