He is the author ofSomething Within: Religion and African-American Political Activism (Oxford University Press, 1999) and co-author with Valeria Sinclair-Chapman and Brian McKenzie ofCountervailing Forces in African-American Political Activism, 1973–1994 (Cambridge University Press, 2005).
