Abstract
An Arabic version of the Revised Job Descriptive Index (including the Job in General scale) was administered to managers (N=153) in a large Saudi oil company. Despite the considerable linguistic and cultural changes involved, the scales remained fairly homogeneous after translation. Observed alphas were: Co-workers, .84; Job in General, .78; Supervision, .78; Promotion, .72; Work Itself, .66; and Pay, .64. These initial findings are promising, but it is clear that additional work will be necessary before the Arabic version achieves the high psychometric standards of the original. Suggestions for improvements are presented.
