Abstract

Publishing education in Canada has advanced in step with the development of interest in Canadian writing and publishing. This description of one teaching program discusses the process of educating students about publishing and the value of research in the field. A bibliographic note describes the basic resources available on the Canadian publishing industry.

Francess G. Halpenny, Professor Emeritus of Library and Information Science at the University of Toronto, joined the editorial department of the University of Toronto Press in 1941 and subsequently worked as its editor and managing editor as well as general editor of theDictionary of Canadian Biography/Dictionnaire biographique du Canada. She is the author of numerous articles on publishing and editing and a recipient of many honors and distinctions, including the Canada Council Molson Prize in 1983. Address for correspondence.
